Country flag of South Yemen, salvaged from an oceangoing ship. Officially the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen but also referred to as Democratic Yemen, the South Yemeni flag would have been the vessel's "flag of convenience" or "courtesy flag" and was flown by a vessel which actually called (visited) a port in Yemen, so it has been to the "homeland"!
Natural material. Stitched. Light patina, light soil, light wear. No rips or tears. Smells like a ship.
Approximately 46" x 70".
The flag consists of a tricolor with 3 horizontal stripes of red, white and black with a blue chevron and tilted red star on the hoist side. It was adopted November 30, 1967 when South Yemen declared independence from the United Kingdom and used until 1990, then again in 1994 and by some today.
