signal flag A (Alfa) 47 x 59" vintage

Salvaged ship's international maritime signal flag, used by ships in communication.  The principal system of flags and codes is the Interational Code of Signals. 

Letter / code / radio name:  
Alfa. Meaning: "I have a diver down; keep well clear at low speed."

Blazon: Swallowtailed, per pale argent and azure.

Natural material.  Stitched.  Moderate patina, moderate soil, moderate wear.  Smells like a ship.
Details: engine grease stains on white field, tattered swallowtail. 

Approximately 47" x 59".

The signal flag consists of the hoist half a field of white and the fly end a swallowtail of blue.
