National flag of the Republic of Haiti, salvaged from an oceangoing ship. The Haitian flag would have been the vessel's "flag of convenience" or "courtesy flag" and was flown by a vessel which actually called (visited) a port in Haiti, so it has been to the "homeland"!
Synthetic material. Screened. Light patina, light soil, light wear. No rips or tears. Smells like a ship.
Approximately 48" x 74".
Grommets.
The national flag is a bicolor, consisting of two equal stripes or bands - blue over red, emblazoned in the center with a coat of arms. The coat of arms consists of a royal palm tree wearing a Cap of Liberty (symbol of freedom), flanked by rifles, flags, cannons, trumpets, a drum, anchors, other symbols (yes, there's a lot going on there!) and the motto "L'Union fait la force" which means "Unity makes strength" on a white ribbon.
